CEMETERY
The church cemetery is a sure landmark at Sweetwater Baptist Church. We are honored that members are resting in peace among us. Some of the graves date back to the early 1800’s and Civil War times.
When visiting Sweetwater Baptist Church for the first time, seeing the Gazebo and cemetery on Sweetwater Road will give the assurance of being in the right place.
Mr. Jody Mathis maintains the cemetery and has an extensive knowledge of its occupants. He takes special care for funerals to make sure the grounds are in the best condition for each service and burial.
While our cemetery is currently full, the Cemetery Committee is currently looking into the possibility of placing a Columbarium for cremation remains in the church cemetery. We are in the beginning stages, but an information meeting is soon to come. Refer to the church publications for updates.
“We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, concerning those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve like the rest, who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, in the same way, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep.”
1 Thessalonians 4:13–14
"For the Lord himself shall desend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first. "
I Thessalonians 4:16
