CEMETERY

The church cemetery is a sure landmark at Sweetwater Baptist Church. We are honored that members are resting in peace among us.  Some of the graves date back to the early 1800s and Civil War times.

When visiting Sweetwater Baptist Church for the first time, locating the Gazebo and cemetery on Sweetwater Road will give the assurance of being in the right place.


There are 194 years of history in the Sweetwater Baptist Church Cemetery.  Pastor Paul enjoys giving history tours on occasion to local school children.  

History is His-Story!


Mr. Jody Mathis maintains the cemetery and has an extensive knowledge of its occupants.  He takes special care for funerals to make sure the grounds are in the best condition for each service and burial.

“We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, concerning those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve like the rest, who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, in the same way, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep.”
